The Eagles have received several inquiries from our members about the “Admirals”Eagle Parents:
The Eagles have received several inquiries from our members about the “Admirals”. We found out about the “Admirals” the same way many of you did while attending the NJYHL playoffs at Gold Coast Arena this past weekend. In case you weren’t aware, 5 of our American Eagles teams made the NJYHL playoffs this year. Bantam A won 1st place, Pee Wee A won Silver and U16 B took third. Our 1st place (Blue division) Squirt A team will be playing in the NJYHL Championship game on Sunday March 14 at 12:30 PM at Winding River, Toms River. We hope to see you there.
The American Eagles Board was approached several months ago by the current management team of Gold Coast Arena. The Eagles were contacted in a similar way several years ago by George Haviland when he managed our rink. While short on details, the “current plan” was to take over the American Eagles club and absorb our NJYHL Tier II program to rink control. The main focus of this meeting was to convince us that our club needed a “re-branding”. The Board does not think it is necessary for our members to “buy a new uniform and helmet in the rink pro shop”. While we appreciated the input, we declined the offer and will keep the old uniforms.
The Board feels it is best to have an arms length relationship between our club and the arena. We feel it is in the best interest of our members not to comingle Eagle funds with the funds of the rink. Other than a deposit to secure our ice for the season, the Eagles pay for the ice over ten months; never get too far ahead of actual ice usage. If something were to happen to the facility the Eagles would be in a position to return to our members the remaining funds.
The American Eagles just completed the second year of our five year contract. That contract states that the American Eagles are the only USA Hockey sanctioned Tier II (AA, A & B level) organization permitted to skate at Gold Coast Arena. Our contract does not prohibit “independent” teams like the Titans, and we assume the “Admirals” teams from renting ice from the Gold Coast Arena and skating an independent schedule.
We will be holding try-outs for the 2010-2011 NJYHL season beginning at 5:00 PM on April 20, 2010. We intend to field teams from the mite thru midget levels. The tryout dates will be added to our www.AEYHOCKEYCLUB.com website this week along with a link to sign-up for the tryouts.
Thank you for your continued support of our club. GO EAGLES!
